Crewe 1-1 Shrewsbury

Crewe and Shrewsbury were forced to share the spoils as they warmed up for the festive season with a hotly contested 1-1 draw.

Alex had taken the lead on 19-minutes, with on-loan QPR striker Tom Hitchcock nodding home from the six yard line after great work by Mesca Bangna and Chuks Aneke.

But the visitors pushed hard for an equaliser, with Luke Summerfield twice firing wide before Jon Taylor pulled a stunning save out of Ben Garratt from point blank range.

And after the break, Graham Turner’s side deservedly levelled as Taylor ran on to a long ball before smashing into the net.

Despite having the momentum, it was Crewe who went in search of a winner, but they failed to test the ‘keeper, with Aneke most guilty as he missed a hat-trick of chances.

Then in injury time, Shrewsbury themselves should have won it, but Tom Eaves couldn’t get enough power on a lazy stab that led to a comfortable save.
